Summer has always been one my favorite times of the year to hike up North. My daughter Elizabeth is on summer break and I enjoy taking her outdoors with me. She usually comes willingly so that we can spend time together. She struggles with coordination and I have to choose our hikes carefully so that she will be able to complete it or go as far as possible.

After searching online I found the See Canyon Trail in Payson. When we reached the trailhead, our vehicle was the only one in the parking area. I was thrilled to think we could have some quiet time to ourselves. The sun was out and it was warm. The hike takes you along the creek and there are several crossings along the way. It's a good idea to bring water shoes or have waterproof hiking shoes on.

The trail was filled with lush ferns and grasses. The entire hike is uphill and there were several trees that were down on the trail. You could either go over or around them. There are tons of large black ants so we had to be careful not to lean against the trees. My daughter gets scared of the flies and bees that buzz by on the hike. I should have brought the bug spray!

After getting a few scrapes from trying to climb over and around the trees she was ready to hike back down. Unfortunately we didn't make it through the entire hike so I'll have to head back over there when I get a chance to enjoy the views. It was a beautiful hike and really the most important part of that was spending time with my daughter. That was priceless.

If you go, you don't need a permit. Do bring suncreen, bug spray and plenty of water.
